Unfortunately when travelling or during storage surfboards can get damaged. Fortunately this damage can be prevented through the use of board bags or socks (toweling covers). There are three primary types of board bags each with their own pros, cons and specific uses.
When buying a board bag always try to get a bag that exactly matches the length and width of your board. Most will take an extra two inches in length than stated. So if there is a fin slot then most times you can get away with a 9'2" board in a 9' cover. If this isn't possible go the next size up. Also take into account your fin height and set up. Don't buy a narrow thin bag if you want a board with a large quad set up as the bag will be difficult to close. Longboard bags should come with a centre zip or flap to allow the centre fin to poke through.
